MADISON (WKOW) -- As Madison's top chef of the year, Evan Dannells knows how to run a restaurant.
As the owner of Cadre in Madison, he also knows when business takes a wrong turn.
"We're the first thing people tend to cut out of their budgets when they get nervous about money," Dannells said.
Those nerves are stemming from the government shutdown. Dannells said the uncertainty around programming pauses and paychecks has led to fewer full tables in Cadre.
"This is a time of year that restaurants rely on to save up enough money to make it through the winter and get into the next year, and I'm genuinely concerned that we're not going to see the business we want," said Dannells.
Though it's not just about customers cutting back. Dannell said there's another concern looming even closer to
