A man was hospitalized with serious injuries after he was struck by a pickup truck while retrieving a barbecue grill that fell out of his vehicle on Monday in Gloucester County, police said.

Mantua Township police responded to the intersection of Main Street and Lambs Road shortly after 7:30 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian involved in a crash, authorities said.

A pickup truck was traveling north on Main Street when a grill fell out of the bed of the vehicle, police said.

When the two occupants got out to retrieve the grill from the roadway, one was struck by another pickup truck heading north on Main Street, police said.
