A gas company has given a welcome update on the progress of 'disruptive' mains repair work causing traffic tailbacks at a key commuter junction.

The junction of the A34 Kingsway and the A560 Gatley Road, known locally as Gatley lights, is a notoriously busy junction in Stockport . It serves the M60 motorway, both clockwise and anti-clockwise, and also one of the main routes south of Manchester towards Cheshire.

Two lanes of the southbound A34 have been closed since November 3 due to the discovery of a gas leak needing 'urgent repair'.

The three-lane carriageway has been reduced to just one lane, with drivers only allowed to continue straight on or turn left. The through-road between Cheadle and Gatley has also been closed, with drivers in both directions only able t
