BELOIT, Wis. (WMTV) - The city of Beloit has a new police chief, officials announced Tuesday.

Schonella Stewart was appointed the new Beloit Chief of Police at a meeting on Monday night.

Stewart was offered the position late last month , as long as all conditions were met.

Stewart brings 19 years of law enforcement experience to the table. She worked with the Oak Park, Illinois police as an officer, juvenile investigator, detective, tactical officer, patrol sergeant, tactical sergeant, community policing commander and an investigations commander.

BPD said she also worked with multiple task forces, such as homicide, Internet Crimes Against Children, FBI hijacking, and human trafficking task forces.

Stewart said that she comes from a family of public servants.
