SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - As celebrations honoring our veterans continue across the Ozarks, many of those who served our country are struggling in silence.

According to the Veterans Affairs, 1 in 3 veterans experience symptoms of depression, and 1 in 5 veterans have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder.

With 15.8 million military veterans in 2023, we are seeing fewer and fewer from WW2, with currently .06% of veterans alive at the time, 3.5% of veterans served in the Korean War are still alive, and 33% from the Vietnam War which is higher than the 28% who have served since September of 2001.

Veterans Day is about honoring those who have given and continue to fight.
