Every public servant will have access to an in-house generative artificial intelligence chatbot within the next 12 months, under the federal government's newly released AI plan.

Public Service Minister Katy Gallagher unveiled the Australian Public Service 's AI plan on Wednesday, saying it would enable the government to unlock the potential that AI offers to public sector workers.

Senator Gallagher said she predicted there would be no single area of government untouched by AI in the future.

"If that's the case, and I'm pretty certain it will be, the responsibility falls to all of us to guide and shape how that happens," Senator Gallagher told an audience of public servants and industry at the Government Innovation Showcase in Canberra.
