TORRINGTON, Conn. — About 70 veterans were honored and celebrated at Torrington Middle School on Tuesday for Veterans Day.

“They're gonna have a whole big shindig. It'll be fun,” Allen Miller said.

Miller was one of the veterans who came. He says his nephew invited him.

“Bryce has asked me for probably the past three years to come do this for him. So I said, ‘Yeah, all right, buddy, I'll come do it.’ So he was happy. So here I am,” he said.

Miller served four and a half years in the Coast Guard.

“I was on a ship for two and a half years, and I was on land for the rest, but it was good. It was good," he said.

The event was put on by sixth-grade social studies teacher Liza Rosa and fourth-grade teacher Rachel Placentino.
