PHOENIX — A recent law enforcement operation along the section of 27th Avenue near Grand Canyon University has resulted in dozens of arrests.
A spokesperson for GCU said "Operation New Beginning" involved the Maricopa County Attorney's office, university police and other law enforcement agencies working together to combat human trafficking. The operation focused on the region of 27th Avenue between Bethany Home and Indian School roads.
Phase 1 of the operation occurred in August and resulted in 47 arrests for misdemeanor prostitution over three days. Phase 2 occurred in early November and resulted in 22 arrests for prostitution, according to the GCU spokesperson.
One juvenile victim of child sex trafficking was reportedly recovered during the operation, the spokesperson added.
