The U.S. Fire Administration has launched a campaign called "Put a Freeze on Winter Fires" to address the increased risk of house fires during the holiday season, with December, January, and February accounting for half of all house fires in a calendar year.
"It's extremely dangerous," said Al Vincent Hussey, the Wilmerding fire marshal. "The United States Fire Administration are a partner to 'Put a Freeze on Winter Fires.' It's extremely dangerous, and we'd like to take a moment to reach out to everyone." Advertisement
Hussey explained that common causes of house fires during winter and the holidays include unattended fires in the home, improper use of fireplaces, and auxiliary space heaters.
