WATERBURY, Conn. —
Connecticut officials believe the state of healthcare in Waterbury is looking up after UConn Health announced Tuesday it would be purchasing Waterbury Hospital for $13 million, and assuming $22 million in debt.
The Waterbury facility was the last Connecticut hospital owned by Prospect Medical Holdings to find a buyer, and now that it has, a shift in how healthcare is approached in the state could be coming.
For years under Prospect Medical, Waterbury Hospital had issues with patient care, safety and retaining staff. UConn Health President John Driscoll says they’re leaving behind the hospital’s darkest period.
