Portland should remain dry Tuesday night before rain returns later in the day on Wednesday.

A brief period of high pressure will keep conditions dry through early Wednesday, with light northerly winds and increasing mid and high-level clouds. By Wednesday afternoon, a frontal system will approach from the Pacific, bringing rainfall to the region.

Rain is expected to develop late Wednesday night into early Thursday, with the heaviest precipitation likely along the coast and Coast Range. From Wednesday afternoon to Thursday afternoon, coastal areas have a 50-60% chance of receiving more than an inch of rain, while interior valleys have a 10-20% chance. Winds will strengthen and turn southwesterly, with coastal areas potentially seeing gusts up to 45 mph.
