(WBAY) - A new bill in Madison aims to put some guardrails on the booming data center industry.

These massive data centers, including one under construction south of Kenosha, and a soon to be under construction site in Port Washington, use massive amounts of power and water.

Critics say they use too much of both and watchdog groups want to prevent any costs being passed down to taxpayers.

There are state laws that provide tax breaks for companies to build in Wisconsin, but some believe there aren’t enough safeguards, which is what this bill aims to address.
