DUPONT – Each year, the Dupont VFW Post 4909 conducts a ceremony observing Veterans Day. This year, in addition to the program, the Post honored two of their own in World War II veterans Sal Alaimo, 97, and Sam “Greek” Guarnieri, 99.
The program, led by Master of Ceremonies Bernard McDonald, AMVETS Post 189 commander, offered remarks along with Tim Bender, VFW Post 4909 commander, and women from the VFW auxiliary.
Special guest speakers included Dupont Borough Council Chairman Stanley Knick, Dupont Mayor Elaine Lello, and retired Lackawanna County judge and Vietnam veteran, Tom Munley.
A 21-gun salute and “Taps” were conducted by the AMVETS Honor Guard.
Alaimo, who was unable to attend the ceremony, and Guarnieri were given proclamations by the Borough of Dupont presented by Dupont May
