ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. —
Dozens of veterans and community members came together Tuesday at American Legion Post 113 in Elizabethtown, honoring every branch of the armed forces on Veterans Day.
“The importance of, of this day, Veterans Day, is the fact that this is how we tell our stories. And it's important that we pass those stories on,” said Joe Garrett, a U.S. Army veteran who served 26 years, including two combat tours in Vietnam and a year in Desert Storm.
“In this day, of course, or as I'm sure should be, it is in my heart every day, every year. But for this one day, we can all gather together and, and show our support and our love for one another,” Garrett said.
Garrett said the Army gave him a second family and a sense of purpose.
