NEW ORLEANS —

Tuesday marks the deadline for the city of New Orleans and the Department of Justice to file their joint motion to end the New Orleans Police Department's federal consent decree.

The consent decree has been in place since 2012, following a federal investigation that uncovered patterns of misconduct within the department. Advertisement

Both the city and DOJ say that the department has reached full compliance and will request a judge to lift federal oversight.

A court hearing on this request is scheduled for next Wednesday before Judge Susie Morgan.
