A California lawmaker is continuing his push to separate the Golden State into two.
Asm. James Gallagher (R–East Nicolaus) spoke at the Shasta County Board of Supervisors meeting last week asking for support for his plan to split California into two states following the passage of Proposition 50.
The backstory: Gallagher, the former Assembly minority leader, first revealed his proposal in August to split California between the coastal and inland regions. • He introduced Assembly Joint Resolution 23 into the Legislation. • The proposal would express the consent of the Legislature to split California into two if it passes, urging Congress to accept it. It does not actually have the authority to split the state.
