BEAUMONT, Texas — Both the Republican and Democratic party chairmen in Jefferson County recently announced they are stepping down from their positions, marking the end of an era for local party leadership.

Republican Party Chairman Joe Evans Jr. and Democratic Party Chairman Joseph Trahan confirmed they will not seek re-election. Both men said they are ready for something new after years of service but aren’t ruling out future roles in public service.

“Goodbye. I love everybody. See you later,” Evans said with a smile.

“This is not farewell. It is see you later,” Trahan added.

Evans, who has served two terms as the Jefferson County Republican Party chairman, said his decision comes down to timing and the desire for fresh leadership.
