There was no Veterans Day ceremony at Riverside National Cemetery.

But that didn’t stop the Inland Empire from coming out Tuesday, Nov. 11, to salute those who served.

The federal government shutdown put a halt to the annual service at the military cemetery. But from Claremont to Murrieta, residents staged parades and other activities to mark the holiday.

In Redlands, residents took to the streets Tuesday, Nov. 11, to pay their respects to veterans during the city’s annual Hometown Heroes’ Veterans Day Parade.

Onlookers cheered as veterans made their mile-and-a-half journey from Redlands High School to Jennie Davis Park. Leading the march was Redlands native and retired Army Sgt. Dan Flanigan, who served in the Vietnam War as a forward observer with the 1st Air Cavalry Division.
