NORFOLK, Va. — More than 1,000 flights have been cancelled in the United States on Tuesday, and more than 2,000 flights have been delayed. It comes after the Federal Aviation Administration limited flight capacity by 6% to alleviate pressure put on air traffic controllers at 40 major U.S airports.
These essential personnel have gone 42 days without pay due to the government shutdown, and there is still no clear guidance on when the government will reopen.
While Norfolk International Airport is not directly impacted by FAA's cuts, the effects were still felt.
"We were told it would be a four-hour delay, it ended up being two, but we still need to get to D.C. for our international flight," said one traveler.
"We came from Seattle, had a two-hour delay just to get here," said another. "I'
