COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Students at Brookland-Cayce High School met living history Tuesday when they honored 102-year-old World War II veteran Charles Shealy Sr. during a ceremony at the school.

The high school, which has deep roots in World War II history, recognized the war veteran with applause and gratitude.

“I don’t know exactly how to describe it. It’s just a great honor,” Shealy said.

Shealy graduated from Batesburg-Leesville High School and enlisted in the military three years later to fight in World War II. He served as a tail gunner on a B-25 Mitchell bomber while stationed in Okinawa.
