GRAND HAVEN, MI — The gales of November whipped up strong winds and towering waves on the Lake Michigan shore on Tuesday.

A Gale Warning was in effect for a majority of shoreline communities from St. Joseph to Manistee until 10 p.m. Tuesday evening.

MLive senior photographer Joel Bissell ventured to Muskegon and Grand Haven to capture the large waves crashing into the shoreline piers.

The warning issued by the National Weather Service called for Southwest gales to 35 knots (40 MPH), with snow transitioning to rain in the afternoon. By early afternoon, waves were building 9 to 13 feet. Strong wind and waves are forecasted to continue through the evening.
