A cold and blustery Veterans Day in New Jersey felt more like late December than early November, with temperatures dropping into the 20s in many areas of the state and winds gusting as high as 50 mph in several counties.
And adding to the wintry feel — snow showers left a light coating on the ground in the state’s northern region. It was New Jersey’s first snow of the 2025 autumn season.
The highest wind gusts Tuesday were reported in Avalon in Cape May County (52 mph) and Beach Haven in Ocean County (51 mph), according to wind data from the National Weather Service and the Rutgers NJ Weather Network .
The coldest temperature of the day was recorded at High Point Monument in Sussex County, with a frigid reading of 21 degrees in the morning.
