MICHIGAN, USA — A severe geomagnetic storm could impact Earth tonight and Wednesday night.

The Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a rare G4 Storm Watch for Wednesday, November 12.

This type of watch has only happened four times in this solar cycle, so it is pretty rare.

A solar flare, or a coronal mass ejection (CME), has erupted off the sun and is traveling toward Earth.

This CME will disrupt Earth's magnetic field and cause a geomagnetic storm. This can cause the aurora borealis to show off its beauty during the darkness.

This is a real possibility Tuesday and Wednesday nights across North America.

However, in West Michigan, it will be next to impossible to see it Tuesday night with the low-level clouds overhead.
