JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Rev. Sylvia King knew that if she were elected mayor of the city of Johnstown, there would be historic significance to her serving in the office. But she avoided drawing much attention to that fact during the race.
Now, though, having been voted into the position last week, she is reflecting upon the importance of the moment. When King takes her oath in January, she will become the city’s first Black mayor and only its second woman mayor, following Linda Weaver, who served in the 1990s. ×
