When Natalina Garritano was 11 years old, a bomb exploded near her home in Cosenza, a small town in Southern Italy. She would likely have died if an American soldier had not seen her arm sticking out from the rubble and pulled her to safety.
The year was 1944 and the Americans were attempting to conquer Italy during World War II.
