Firefighters on Hawaii island continue working to contain the 2,100-acre Mana Road brush fire today as officials warn of worsening weather conditions — including strong winds, low humidity and high surf — that could elevate wildfire risks and prompt safety power shutoffs.
The Mana Road fire, located about seven miles from the Mauna Kea Access Road, was 65% contained this morning, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense. Firebreaks have been cut completely around the burn area, and crews from the Hawaii Fire Department, Division of Forestry and Wildlife and Pohakuloa Training Area are extinguishing remaining hot spots within 100 feet of the perimeter.
