The Wyoming Valley Conference’s two entrants into state semifinal action on Tuesday were both eliminated one round shy of reaching the state finals.
The Wyoming Seminary boys soccer team came up a goal short in a 1-0 defeat to District 1 champion Delco Christian in a match played at Hamburg High School. The two teams were squaring off for a chance to head to the PIAA Class A championship match on Saturday.
The Berwick girls volleyball team met a similar fate about an hour later, falling in four sets to Pope John Paul II in the Class 3A semifinals at Martz Hall in Pottsville.
Both programs were making their first state semifinal appearance in school history on Tuesday.
The WVC’s last team standing for the fall season is Wilkes-Barre Area football, which is set to begin its state playoff
