Vision of the moment a six-year-old girl watched on as a teenager killed her 70-year-old grandmother in an act of "indiscriminate violence" has been played to a court.

In February last year, Vyleen White was stabbed in the chest, shortly after she and her granddaughter arrived at a shopping centre at Redbank Plains in Ipswich.

Her now 17-year-old killer, who cannot be named under Queensland's youth justice laws, pleaded guilty to her murder earlier this year .

He also admitted to several other offences including the unlawful use of Ms White's car.

Sentencing hearing underway

On Wednesday, the teenager faced a sentencing hearing in the Supreme Court in Brisbane, where CCTV from the underground car park where the attack occurred was played as part of the prosecution's submissions.
