(KRON) — An incoming atmospheric river is forecast to bring 3 to 8 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 50 mph to the Lake Tahoe area between 1 a.m. Thursday and 4 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS has issued a winter weather advisory for the northern Sierra Nevada at elevations above 6,500 feet. As much as 2 feet of snow will be possible along the highest peaks south of Highway 50 during the advisory.
