CLEVELAND, Ohio — Major League Baseball’s new restrictions on prop betting look suspiciously like closing the barn door after the horses have bolted. The league announced a $200 cap on prop bets following the federal indictments of Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz in what prosecutors called a pitch-fixing scheme – a move that Cleveland Baseball Talk Podcast hosts Joe Noga and Paul Hoynes view with considerable skepticism.

“For Ortiz and Clase, it’s too, little too late. And for the reputation of the Guardians and Major League Baseball, it’s the same,” Hoynes declared on the podcast. “I mean, they had their hand forced to do this, which is a shame.”
