GREENSBORO, N.C. — Two Greensboro Marines, who served decades apart, are bound by the same unbreakable brotherhood.
While they shared their stories with WFMY News 2's Nixon Norman on Veterans Day night, it was made clear some connections never fade.
Captain Nat Reed and Corporal Charlie Hayne fought in different wars but carry the same scars, the same memories and the same pride that comes along with it.
Reed joined the Marines in 1967 and deployed to Vietnam the next year. A month into combat, he was shot and wounded.
“May of '68, and I only learned this not too long ago, was the worst month of the whole war in terms of casualties for us,” Reed said.
Decades later, Hayne was in a different war zone, serving in Iraq after 9/11. He served until 2007. He said he still carries the names
