Last year, the National Association of Realtors said the median age for a first-time homebuyer was a record high at 38 years old.

Not only are first-time buyers getting older, but there's less of them, as they only make up 24% of buyers.

"Roosevelt did that…the 30-year mortgages. And that was unique at that point. 50 years is a quantum leap," University of New Haven accounting taxation associate professor James Mohs said.
