HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut Attorney General William Tong has issued a stern warning to a prominent American gun manufacturing company based in Southport.
Tong issued a letter on Monday to Sturm, Ruger & Co. – better known as “Ruger” – raising public safety concerns about the company’s semi-automatic pistols that can be quickly converted into machine guns.
Tong said that machine gun conversion devices turn the pistols into fully automatic weapons as quickly as or faster than those used by the military.
Tong’s letter cited new authority granted to his office this year through the Connecticut Firearms Industry Responsibility Act.
This legislation allows the state to bring civil enforcement actions against a variety of parties.
