TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - “They’ve checked every box that I would have imagined,” said Maclay head football coach Arie Slone. “Our program has goals, and it’s been a great ride. Hopefully it doesn’t end on Friday.”
That’s the hope for any high school football team this time of year. The first round of the playoffs is Friday night, and a 7-3 mark helped propel Maclay to a three seed in the Class 1A bracket.
It was a pleasant surprise for Slone. This team had a lot of new faces and he didn’t know what to expect this season. Now, Maclay gets to open up the postseason at home. They’ll host NFEI, and although they didn’t finish the year like they wanted too, losing back to back games. Now, they’re fresh off the open week and they’re feeling good and ready to go.
