Residents in Australia's south-east woke up shivering this morning as many places plunged to their coldest November morning on record.

Parts of Victoria, South Australia, NSW and the ACT dipped 10 to 12 degrees below their lowest recorded November temperatures.

Canberra's minimum of -2.3 degrees early today was about 12 degrees below average, according to Weatherzone

The previous November record was -1.8 degrees from 1967.

Weatherzone said new November daily minimum temperature records were also broken in the NSW central west communities of Orange and Mudgee, recording frosty temperatures of -2 degrees and 0.1 degrees respectively.

Temperatures in the Victorian city of Wangaratta dipped to a cold -1.3 degrees while the South Australian town of Renmark recorded a low 1.9 degrees.
