DALLAS — Lawmakers seem ready to reopen the government , but it won’t immediately be business as usual.
Air travel , food assistance , loans and contractor payments are among the many areas that could take several days – maybe longer - to return to normal once the government reopens.
“Unfortunately, there is no magic genie who is going to return air travel to normal within moments or even a day of the end of the shutdown,” said Henry Harteveldt, an airline industry analyst with Atmosphere Research Group.
Air travel delays likely to continue
Harteveldt predicts it could take a week or two for full flight schedules to resume.
He says the Federal Aviation Administration will have to verify staffing levels and assess how many air traffic controllers remain on the job.
