HUNTINGTON, Texas (KTRE) - More than 100 veterans were recognized during Huntington High School’s 30th Annual Veterans Program.

“I think it’s a time where we can personally thank each one of them,” said Huntington High School teacher J’Nelle Short. “It takes some time, but I think it’s worth it.”

It was a celebration and homecoming for Air Force veteran Mike Terry. He was the school’s principal in 1995 and helped create the program.

“I walked into Mrs. Short’s room and said, ‘hey do you think we can get a veterans program going’ she said ‘absolutely’,” Terry said.

And 30 years later it is still going strong. Short said the goal has always been to celebrate veterans.

“From the very beginning that’s what our program was focused on, and we tried to stay true to that,” Short said
