Pat Kelsey just accomplished in one night what no other Louisville basketball coach in the past 15 years did against Kentucky. He helped break the hex, curse or spell that the Wildcats seemed to always put on the Cardinals when former coach John Calipari began his tenure in 2009.
The Cards played like the better team from start to finish in handing UK a 96-88 defeat, which was the largest margin of victory for them in the series since an 89-75 win in 2008. While it doesn't mean U of L will now own the series, it does indicate that the Cards will put up a considerably different fight going forward.
It’s only U of L’s fifth win in the annual series since that game, which was one of two losses it handed Billy Gillispie in his short-lived two-year tenure with the Cats.
