A “profoundly cruel” instance of toxic online behaviour prompted Brockville Mayor Matt Wren to respond in a way that got him reprimanded by council, the mayor said Tuesday.

Two weeks after city council followed an integrity commissioner’s recommendation to reprimand him over a code of conduct breach, the mayor used his opening remarks at the regular council meeting to tell his side of the story, after initially only responding to the report’s findings with a brief written statement.
