WASHINGTON — Will the Mega Millions jackpot reach $1 billion this year? It's inching closer to the billion-dollar mark with a massive jackpot of $900 million for Tuesday's drawing after last Friday's drawing continued the winless streak.

It's the third time the jackpot has reached this level since the game's largest prize ever of $1.602 billion was won in August of 2023, and the eighth largest jackpot since the lottery game began in 2002.

The jackpot has been growing since it was last won in Virginia on June 27.
