FARGO — North Dakotans have been enjoying the fast lane for a few months now.
Since August, the speed limit has been 80 miles per hour on most of the state's interstate system.
Sgt. Kristjan Helgoe of the North Dakota Highway Patrol said he recently clocked a driver at 87 mph in the 80 mph zone on Interstate 29.
Helgoe quickly caught up to the SUV.
"Morning, Kristjan with the Highway Patrol, just saw you moving a little fast back there today. The speed limit is 80. I saw a speed of 87 this morning. Does that sound about accurate?" he asked the driver.
The speed limit has changed from 75 to 80, but Helgoe said the job is still the same. Troopers are now being stricter about how far over the limit they allow drivers to go.
