SIOUX FALLS — John Shuster and his team took a significant first step toward yet another U.S. Olympic Trials championship on Tuesday, Nov. 11 after the first day of competition at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
Shuster’s rink won big in each of its first two round-robin matches. The first of them, an 8-3 decision in nine ends against the lightly regarded Team Caden Hebert in the afternoon, was probably unsurprising. However the evening match, a 10-2 whipping of Team Danny Casper that was conceded after just six of the maximum 10 ends, demonstrated Shuster’s determination to skip Team USA in five straight Winter Olympics.
Shuster, a Chisholm native living in Superior, is competing with Chris Plys (Duluth), Colin Hufman (St. Paul) and Matt Hamilton (McFarland, Wisconsin). Plys and Hamil
