Veterans honored as Memorial Union marks 100 years

MADISON (WKOW) -- Thursday was Veterans Day and marked the 100th anniversary of when the Memorial Union broke ground in Madison.

When construction began a century ago, the building was dedicated to the service members of the United States. Wooden panels inside display the names of those who served.

"This is a very special place, not just because of all of the living that happens inside of it, but also because literally written into its stone is the idea that this is a place to remember the sacrifice, the work, the dedication and the courage of our country's service members," said Shauna Breneman, public relations and communications officer for the Wisconsin Union.

The Memorial Union also has an online memorial where people can share the names of fallen service members and tell their sto
