MADISON (WKOW) -- Thursday was Veterans Day and marked the 100th anniversary of when the Memorial Union broke ground in Madison.
When construction began a century ago, the building was dedicated to the service members of the United States. Wooden panels inside display the names of those who served.
"This is a very special place, not just because of all of the living that happens inside of it, but also because literally written into its stone is the idea that this is a place to remember the sacrifice, the work, the dedication and the courage of our country's service members," said Shauna Breneman, public relations and communications officer for the Wisconsin Union.
