State Rep. Gary Click’s House Bill 486, opportunistically named Charlie Kirk American Heritage Act, should be set aside, and if brought up for floor votes should be defeated.
There is nothing wrong with American history and civics classes reflecting the role of Christian belief in the formation of the United States.
It’s a fact that the earliest European explorers of North and South America brought with them fervently held religious values. It’s a fact that authors of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence were not afraid to profess their faith as a major motivating factor, and even their belief that the Republic should always look to divine inspiration and protection — even if some of them were not particularly religious.
Those facts should be taught in all of our schools
