LOUISVILLE, Ky. — There is a chance the colorful Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) will be viewable in parts of Kentuckiana.
The lights are normally viewed in northern climates, but the sun has released several bursts of energy called coronal mass ejections that could reach Earth Tuesday night and early Wednesday.
Depending on how bright the auroras are and how far south they travel will depend on when the solar bursts arrive and how they interact with Earth’s atmosphere.
These beautiful displays could be visible across most of the Northern U.S. and as far south as Alabama and Northern California.
The NOAA Space Prediction Center says geomagnetic activity could impact infrastructure technology.
