SALISBURY — Lincoln Charter scored on a free kick in the 97th minute on Monday and beat Salisbury 3-2 in overtime in the third round of the 4A state playoffs.
The fourth-seeded Hornets (17-1-5) led 1-0 early and 2-1 at halftime. Fifth-seeded Lincoln Charter improved to 16-3-1 and plays next at top-seeded Newton-Conover.
It was a chilly final game at the helm of the Salisbury boys for coach Matt Parrish, who guided the Hornets to state titles in 2011, 2013 and 2015. His record for 15 seasons was 283-52-24.
Parrish plans to return for a 22nd season at the helm of the Salisbury girls this spring. He’s 317-82-23 with the girls for 600 wins betwen the two programs.
