BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With many in the community still needing access to food, local pantries are seeing more families come through their doors, including at Greenwood Park Church of Christ.

Before COVID, their pantry served about 50 families a month. Now, that number has risen to 500 per month before SNAP benefits, eventually climbing towards 1,000.

Manager Hope Baker, who has been with the pantry since 2016, says the increase in families seeking help in recent weeks has been massive compared to previous years.

“The last Thursday in October, we would normally see maybe 40 families. We saw over 100. The first Thursday of this month, we will maybe see 150. We saw 300… and then today wasn’t much different. So even though the government may be on the verge of reopening, the money hasn’t sta
