When food courier service Menulog announced it would cease operations in Australia later this month, hospitality owners such as Selina Choi were not surprised.

Ms Choi owns Seoul Sistaz, a Korean cafe in the centre of Canberra, and while she has had Menulog on board since first opening more than one year ago, she found the patronage brought in by the app lacking, especially compared to the other two companies she utilises.

"Since opening last year, we've only received three or four orders in total from the app," Ms Choi said.

"Whereas on Uber Eats - that's our most successful one - we'd get about 10 orders a day. And Hungry Panda is also quite good.

"Delivery platforms are important for food businesses. People are lazy and they don't want to go out - that's what I'm like.
