On Tuesday, rape charges against footballer Tanner Bruhn and his co-accused Patrick Sinnott were dropped. That they were cleared will be a relief for them but will not feel like a moment of joy.
There was no victory for the justice system, when police and prosecutors’ case collapses after a key witness admits he lied.
The cause of women bringing sexual assault charges was not helped.
The reputation of male footballers was not improved by charges that stemmed from what was alleged to have happened after a 4am soiree in a strip club by a player and his mate, who allegedly emerged from the club with a drunken woman and left in a car.
