THERE'S been a fresh development in the case of a local teacher accused of a string of child sex abuse offences near Tamworth.

Bradley Van Praag, who was a well-known teacher in the Quirindi, Gunnedah and Tamworth areas, has been in custody since detectives from the state's Child Abuse Squad moved on him in January.

The now 43-year-old is being housed at a correctional centre in the south of the state and watched on via video link in Tamworth Local Court on Wednesday, November 12, listening to his case mention.

Van Praag faces nine charges, including aggravated sexual assault of a victim under 16; having sexual intercourse with a child; grooming; as well as transmitting or using a carriage service to access child abuse material.
